Wichita, KS – The Wichita Symphony is overjoyed to welcome back internationally celebrated pianist Joyce Yang and guest conductor Laura Jackson to the Century II Concert Hall for a spellbinding performance of Edvard Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A minor. On Sunday, November 17 at 3:00 PM, Yang brings her breathtaking artistry and lyrical expression to one of the most treasured concertos in the classical repertoire.

Yang, a Van Cliburn International Piano Competition silver medalist and recipient of an Avery Fisher Career Grant, is known for her expressive interpretations and technical brilliance. Her performance of Grieg’s iconic concerto will be enhanced by the leadership of Laura Jackson, a dynamic and inspiring conductor known for her innovative programming and electric podium presence. Currently Music Director of the Reno Philharmonic, Jackson has earned a reputation for captivating performances and her deep connection with musicians and audiences alike.

“We're excited to welcome back both Joyce Yang and Laura Jackson to the Wichita Symphony stage,” says Executive Director Tim Storhoff. “This performance promises to bring audiences on a remarkable journey, allowing them to unwind and forget the stress of daily life. Together, we’ll explore the wild landscapes of Patrick Harlin’s music and be transported to Scandinavia through the evocative works of Grieg and Sibelius, all guided by the artistry of these two inspiring women.”

Grieg’s Piano Concerto is a work filled with sweeping melodies and lush orchestration, often regarded as a hallmark of the Romantic era. Its familiar, soaring opening chords have inspired listeners for generations, making it a favorite of audiences around the world. In fact, it is believed that the Grieg Piano Concerto was the first piano concerto ever performed in Wichita.

The concert will also feature selections from Patrick Harlin’s The Wilderness Anthology and Symphony No. 2 by Jean Sibelius. This program invites the audience to escape into the soundscape of nature, rich melodies, and lush harmonies.
