INTERNATIONALLY ACCLAIMED CELLIST JOINS THE WICHITA SYMPHONY
Wichita, KS – German cellist Alban Gerhardt, renowned as one of the world’s greatest and most versatile musicians, makes his first appearance with the Wichita Symphony on March 16, 2025. Gerhardt will perform Antonín Dvořák’s iconic Cello Concerto, a masterpiece celebrated for its sweeping melodies and emotional depth.
Alban Gerhardt is widely regarded as one of the most accomplished cellists of our time. With a career spanning over two decades, Gerhardt has performed with leading orchestras and conductors worldwide, captivating audiences with his technical mastery and heartfelt interpretations. His performance of Dvořák’s Cello Concerto promises to be an unforgettable highlight of the season.
Under the baton of Daniel Hege, the orchestra will also perform Felix Mendelssohn’s stirring Symphony No. 5, known as the "Reformation Symphony," a work that masterfully combines spiritual resonance with orchestral brilliance. The evening will begin with the enchanting To Spring – An Overture by contemporary composer Daniel Perttu, a vibrant piece inspired by the rejuvenating spirit of springtime.

In addition to the Sunday afternoon concert, Gerhardt is presenting a masterclass on Saturday, March 15 for Wichita State University and Wichita Symphony Youth Orchestras cello students.

Dvořák's Cello Concerto is presented by the Wichita Symphony in its 80th Anniversary Season on Sunday, March 16, 2025 at 3:00 PM at Century II Concert Hall.
