What's interesting about these concerts?

A Rare Feat
Sergei Rachmaninoff’s works for piano are treacherously difficult – performing one of his concertos is like climbing Mt. Everest. Now imagine summiting Everest five times in one weekend!

Impossible Odds
Part of why Rachmaninoff’s pieces are so difficult is because of his hand span. His unusually large hands gave him a broader reach than most pianists, making his concertos almost impossible for mere mortals.

An Amazing Talent
Fortunately, Lise de la Salle is no mortal. This French pianist started lessons at age 4, gave her first live broadcast concert at 9, and was studying with the best pianists in Paris at 11. Now 29, she’s bringing her fierce talent to stages all over the world.

About Pianist Lise de la Salle

In just a few years, through her international concert appearances and her award-winning Naïve recordings, 29 year-old Lise de la Salle has established a reputation as one of today’s most exciting young artists and as a musician of uncommon sensibility and maturity. Her playing inspired a Washington Post critic to write, “For much of the concert, the audience had to remember to breathe… the exhilaration didn’t let up for a second until her hands came off the keyboard.” Born in Cherbourg, France in 1988, Ms. de la Salle was surrounded by music from her earliest childhood. She began studying the piano at the age of four and gave her first concert at nine in a live broadcast on Radio-France. She first came to international attention in 2005, at the age of 16, with a Bach/Liszt recording that Gramophone Magazine selected as "Recording of the Month.“ To learn more about Lise de la Salle, visit
